Infographic: Good Board vs. Bad Board

The elements of good and bad boards

I’ve had my fair share of good boards and bad boards. It’s an unfortunate reality that we tend to learn more about what not to do than we do what to do when starting out our board career.

I’ve always wondered why this is. When information and courses about good governance and board practices and behaviours is so freely available and accessible, why do we still see so many dysfunctional boards?

Below is a snapshot of some of the main elements that identify a good board versus a bad board. Whilst this list is not exhaustive, it is a handy tool for you to use as an evaluation of any board you may be on now or any board you are looking to get on in the future.
